RIP: the Micheal Jackson of dictators

This week, .the fashion world  weeps, or at least should! the most stylish dictator of them all just died.
if an an entourage of tough chicks, photographic patches and capes doesnt convince you how cool this cruel dude was then how about the fact that he had his own Never Land ranch!  with the death of this stylish mo'fo' im thinking finally, i can do a collection inspired by this crazy!

avoid the stares with a moleskin on the train

when and if  i remember to grab my moleskin and when and if i pray really hard someone will leave a seat for me on the train ride into the city and i can quickly sketch as little bit like this...its helps me  to avoid  uncomfortable eye contact between strangers in commute.

unfairness... whats it all about?!

As a student, especially as a parsons student there are good days and bad days but with this new curriculum there has been far worst days id say. but what really bothers me the most, more than the hectic unclarity of it all is the unfairness of it all. especially when it comes to the development of my own personal style. last week after an interview with my drawing instructor i was told to break my style of drawing becuase i must learn the fundamentals of it all before i can develop " my style"  well here are my two cents:
first of all i came to parsons to be a designer not a fashion illustrator. i understand that to portray my designs i need to know how to illustrate and render fabric and construction details but i have developed a form and a character who is my clinetele and this girl that i illustrate is my preference, my aesthetic and if i choose to draw grotesquely then i should be able to draw in such a manner because i think it is really beautiful. i dont want to be a dime a dozen fahsion illustrator , i want to be me. i want to be unique and i want to be recognizable as my self.
second, what i need help in as drawing goes is to perfect my style not conform to something i can learn out of a book. i am getting such mixed reviews with the faculty here that it is driving me literally insane. am i not suposed to be encouraged to be myself and develop into something unique that is not already out there in the world?  i agree that there are certain issues that must be worked on but to completely break free of what i do naturally and so well, in which garners me ohs and ahs from my peers is ridiculous!
third, i want to grow as a designer and not replicate others so if i slave over a drawing trying to mimick somebody else then how is that helping me?! i want my homework to be something i am proud of to put into a portfolio not just a piece of trash that i cry over and want to burn because it isn't me and doesnt express my viewpoint
so Parsons, i ask, if you want to encourage your students to go out and be something new and innovative then help us grow within ourselves and dont pressure us to be something we are not because that just provides society with a watered down version of what we used to be and could have been.

ps. i love my large heads and creepy fingers!

so with that rant out of the way here are a few sketches from drawing class including the first homework assignment vs the most recent one( the one in which i despise!!!)
enjoy,

this is the way i am told to draw, in which im really unsatisfied with
this was my very first assignment in which i love and am told not to draw like this
which one do you like the most?

escapade to escape

living so close to Prospect park warrants frequent travel to its dreamy world of nature and victorian architecture. here are some divining details from the american victorian park and the inspiration of beaux arts architecture, arts and crafts architecture, the great camps and boat making. i also included a few oil paintings of the park form the founder of Parsons ( william merrit Chase) who loved to paint the park.
