if i lived in a cemetary...

i live a block away from Prospect park and although it is lovely and perfect for a stroll i much perfer the new hangout of greenwood cemetary a short jaunt away. this victorian cemetary is mindbogglingly beautiful with awesome tombs old graves and unlike crowded prospect park and its yuppie centric family atmosphere, greenwood cemetary is filled with peace and quite...gotta love dead people. traditionally the cemetary was where the victorians picknicked before prospect park was created, so i dont feel like im disrespecting the graves when i happily walk among them. there are several lakes, shady trees and lots of statues of weeping headless angels to make conversation of with friends. i visited on a sunny monday afternoon where the atmosphere immediately got eerie once past those giant gates and the sounds of parrots ( yes there are blue parrots around) and the wind replaced the earbleeding horns of the city. if you visit you must be prepared to walk some steep paths, the highest point of Brooklyn is here. there are several famous new yorkers buried in this massive plot of land including louis comfort tiffany designer and master of stained glass( credit to Clara Driscoll who did most of the work and never got acknowledged)...so below are photos of my adventure and new hang out spot...

EROS SUMMER 1962

duh! Strand is totally a goldmine for research fellows to find their concept partners of love and i was ecstatic when i came across the Eros book that a friend of mine had picked up in the very same dollar bin two years previously. i scanned in as many images as time and the push peers would allow but there are some great photo as seen below. emphasis on the great and multiply it by 2...

Ooooohhh Fashion Week

ooh fashion week oooh....
since it is that crazy time of year in New York and i dont already  have enough to do, i decided that since im looking at some of the shows online anyway i might as well post a few textures, looks and inspiring pieces continuously through out this blog for future reference. i also attended the Milk Studios Discussion panel on fashion and technology this past thursday night but after a hard day of running all over and it being the first bout of cold rainy weather i was not amused to be anywhere other than home. i did enjoy the discussion but didnt really learn much of anything from it except that blogging is so called the way of the future of fashion publications which is already a known truth, at least for the present moment. technology is so rapidly improving and advancing that you never know whats next , but seriously where are the flying cars!?

todays letter, the letter A!

For my  integrated studio class which is basically methods and concepts smooshed together in to a piece of unwanted hassel and a side of virtually no time or individual attention, we were assigned the task of modifying the concept of a "t" shirt and instead were told to create and alphabet shirt. this project was actually alot of fun and i got a lot of really great conceptual design ideas from this project. i Chose the letter A  for Aly and made a few preliminary sketches in my croquis book, none of which really were constructed for jersey material, a rather difficult fabric to garner a structured silhouette out of, so i abandoned the original intention but took from it the idea of a cropped belly shirt. to my astonishment the fabric was a tubular knit so i was really excited when i figured out a way to use just one stitch on the ultimate dream machine ( the industrial overlock) and a smidge of hand tacking. i created this beauty below and am excited to wear it! although the ook is not normally something i would design since it is so minimal there is a beauty to its grecian flowyness, ultimate wearability, and interesti g centerfront thats very hip and totally new york.i messed around on photoshop and took some funny frolicking pictures of yourstruly.

Three Caballeros

when looking for visual stimulation in films i harkened back to  childhood and traditional animation.  believe through watching the fantastic creations of Disney it helped mold my creative self into the artist i am. not only am i darkly whimsical in my ideas but i feel that  the emphasis on nostalgia through watching such films is inspiring in itslef. i loved the mix of the vivid colors, cartoon and real weaved through with a vintage glamour and exoticism of the time. I like to critically analyze the hidden undertones of childerns films as well. In the three caballeros, Donald as with the other birds are  actually deeply perversed and being the time when exotic south american women were exploited in hollywood this film picks up sinister undertones of such behavior. its really quite interesting.
